Course

Your GFNY will start in front of the Mediterranean sea along the boulevard du Midi, at the beautiful beach of Cannes La Bocca. You will leave the historic seaside commune of Mandelieu La Napoule and head inland to the beautiful hinterland.

After a few flat kilometers, you attack the first challenge of the day, the Tanneron and its 7.6km with a moderate average incline of 5%, and some sections at over 10%, on a narrow road of the Esterel massif.

At the Lac de Saint Cassien the two courses split. The long course athletes take on a breathtaking 110km loop past small typical Provencal villages and awe-inspiring nature that is almost impossible to imagine to be so close to a coastal tourism mecca like Cannes. Once you cross the charming village of Montaroux, the second part of your race starts with the two-part ascent of the Col d'Avaye and its magnificent narrow and steep road and the imposing views of the rugged, sun-soaked Var landscape. From there, enjoy some 30km of descending from the 750m peak with a few small climbs as you race back to the Lake Saint Cassien.

After the long and medium courses come together again, enjoy some more descending and admire the Lake Saint Cassien, and the get ready to return to the coast, which will be far from easy in this massif, with a series of short hills.

On the last small incline before arriving at the coast. From there, enjoy the last, flat 10km of your race along the beaches and palm trees to celebrate your arrival on the Boulevard de la Croisette on one of the most famous coastal roads in the world. Celebrate finishing this prestigious event in this magnificent city of Cannes with your finisher medal, post-race meal, music, awards ceremony and festivities.

GFNY Cannes Course Guide

...Col de Tanneron is a  very cold climb as the race starts early and the sun hasn’t reached that side of the climb yet. It’s a 7.5km long climb with an average of 4.5%, and a very steady climb which is doable for your first GFNY of the year. You will need to be carefull, the climb has a short downhill part, it can be wet with morning dew which makes the road slippery so stay focused and  pay attention on those corners while descending.

After a fast 5km descent and 5km nore of climbing you will now reach the point where the Medium Course and the Long Course will split.

After 38.6 km racing on the Long course, you will hit a short but very steep hill, not longer than 300m but with more than 13% it will take some energy to get up, make sure you shift back before you take the right hand turn....
