Cannes

Cannes is among the most glamorous places on earth, with the jet-set letting loose on the sandy beaches, fine restaurants and bars, luxury boutiques, private yachts, and the palace hotels lining the famous Boulevard de la Croisette.

Each May, Cannes hosts the world’s most famous film festival and the entire A-list celebrity roster ascends the red-carpeted stairs to the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. Now, Cannes rolls out the red carpet for you.

From the modest fishermen's village to the world-famous seaside and cultural city, Cannes forged a unique history that today attracts visitors from around the world. Cannes faces a dreamy bay bordered by the Lérins islands, an ideal setting and climate to launch your cycling season and discover this magnificent region with your family.

Course

GFNY Cannes starts on the Boulevard de La Croisette, in front of the world-famous Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes, which hosts the annual film festival and its famous red carpet steps that welcome the movie stars from all over the world year after year.  Experience the thrill of racing on the iconic boulevard along the beautiful Cote d’Azur beaches, palm trees, and luxurious palace-hotels and the early morning sunrise on the Mediterranean Sea. The initial 5km along the Boulevard de La Croisette will be neutralized until you leave the city of Cannes.

As you enter the historic seaside commune of Mandelieu La Napoule, you leave the buzz of Cannes behind and head inland into the outstanding, preserved nature of the hinterland. After a few flat kilometers, you attack the first challenge of the day, the Tanneron and its 7.6km with a moderate average incline of 5%, and some sections at over 10%, on a narrow road of the Esterel massif.

At the Lac de Saint Cassien the two courses split. The long course athletes take on a breathtaking 55km loop past small typical Provencal villages and awe-inspiring nature that is almost impossible to imagine to be so close to a coastal tourism mecca like Cannes. Once you cross the charming village of Montaroux, the second part of your race starts with the two-part ascent of the Col d'Avaye and its magnificent narrow and steep road and the imposing views of the rugged, sun-soaked Var landscape. From there, enjoy some 30km of descending from the 750m peak with a few small climbs as you race back to the Lake Saint Cassien.

After the long and medium courses come together again, enjoy some more descending and admire the Lake Saint Cassien, and the get ready to return to the coast, which will be far from easy in this massif, with a series of short hills.

On the last small incline before arriving at the coast, a timing mat with end your chip time. From there, enjoy the last, flat 10km of your race along the beaches and palm trees to celebrate your arrival on the Boulevard de la Croisette on one of the most famous coastal roads in the world. Celebrate finishing this prestigious event in this magnificent city of Cannes with your finisher medal, post-race meal, music, awards ceremony and festivities.

LONG COURSE IS A COMPETITION: Only the finishers of the long course are eligible for category rankings and Overall and Podium awards. If you want to race and be ranked in your category, you must complete the long course. Top 10% of finishers in each age group earn a spot in the Qualifier Corral at every GFNY World event.

MEDIUM COURSE IS NOT A COMPETITION: The riders of the medium course will be provided their start-to-finish time, but will not be ranked by finish time. All finish times will be listed in alphabetical order.

Perks included as part of GFNY Cannes

THE JERSEY: All riders receive the official GFNY Cannes race jersey, which is mandatory attire at the race. The jersey is designed in NYC and Made in Italy.

CHIP TIMING: GFNY Cannes is a timed race. Each athlete has their own timing chip, which starts right after you cross the start line and stops when you cross the finish line. Timing results for all riders will be provided at the finish area on race day and online after the race.

FINISHER MEDAL: Every GFNY Cannes finisher receives a medal, no matter which distance they completed. All finishers also earn a “Finish” towards their 3x2022 GFNY medal or the 10x medal. Go to gfny.com/medals for more information on GFNY’s multi-finisher medals.
